Procter & Gamble (P&G) has been named as the overall leading employer of choice at the inaugural East Africa Employer of Choice 2016 Awards.

P&G also emerged as the runner-up in the Development Employer and Local Attractiveness Employer of Choice categories, voted by over 13,000 East African professionals.

“P&G is honoured to be recognised for our commitment to creating a stimulating work environment for all our employees, and ensuring that they feel valued and continually build on their skills and expertise. We believe that the interests of the individual and the interests of the company must be inseparable. People deliver the best for their company if they follow their passion,” says Vivek Sunder, P&G’s Managing Director.

In the Overall Leading Employer category, Ethiopian Airlines was declared the runners up in the polls that surveyed over 500 private, public and non-profit companies.

Conducted by the Global Career Company, the East African Employer of Choice Awards identified the best East African employer based on the results of a 90-question survey. The research focused primarily on leadership, fairness and equity, job satisfaction, learning and development, values and culture, performance and recognition and remuneration and child care support.

Commenting on what P&G looks for in prospective employees, Vivek elaborated that, For example, all academic degrees are welcome and employees have the opportunity to move from one department to another to learn different skills and gain new knowledge. At P&G we have people who are called ‘lifers’, who
have never had any other employer apart from P&G. This makes us proud because it shows that we are able to cater for the career needs of our people throughout their professional lives.”

During the 2015 Employer of Choice Awards, P&G garnered top honours and emerged as the Overall Careers in Africa Employer of Choice, in addition to being named as winner of the FMCG category.
