Scores Dead Several Others Severely Injured in Eldoret-Webuye Road Accident

Scores of unconfirmed numbers of people have died and several others injured in a road accident along Eldoret-Webuye road Yesternight, Wednesday evening 23rd January 2020.

The road accident occurred after a trailer driver lost control of the vehicle and collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle that is registered to the North Rift Sacco.

The North Rift Sacco 14-seater matatu was reduced to the wreckage with the North Rift Shuttle driver being confirmed dead.

The accident involving the North Rift and Trailer collision occurred in the Turbo bridge.

The North Rift accident comes a month since another Nissan matatu registered under Prestige Sacco collided with another trailer outside Exotic Hotel on 16th December 2019 on the Kericho-Litein road and killed three lives.

The Prestige Sacco that happened a month ago also involved a trailer and left 11other passengers severely injured.

The increase of loss of lives on the roads after PSV vehicles collide with trailers especially on the Western and Nyanza region of Kenya leaves one wondering what could be going wrong especially since on most occasions it’s one vehicle overtaking at the wrong spots.

“Two people died on the spot another passenger was pronounced dead on arrival at Kericho Sub County Hospital.” Said Kericho County police commander Silas Gichunge in the – a month ago – accident.

According to Gichunge, the driver of the Nissan matatu which was heading towards Kericho tried to overtake three other vehicles and at the moment and as a result of that, 3 passengers were left in critical condition at Kericho Sub County hospital.

It remains to be seen on any successful prosecutions of rogue drivers as Kenyan roads are turned to slaughter spots by rogue careless drivers.
