Urgent Need To Save KTDA From Imminent Collapse

BY Soko Directory Team · October 6, 2022 09:10 am

Sometimes when the gods want to destroy you, they first make you mad. This is what is happening to Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA), a giant agency that has over 650,000 smallholder tea farmers under its fold. The management has run rogue.

The current management at KTDA which has since been declared illegitimate seems to be to choke KTDA and cause of millions of shillings from the smallholder tea farmers who looked up to it as a beacon of hope and their catapulting platform to the global market.

The High Court declared the current Board and Management illegitimate. This means they are in office illegally and their acts of impunity are threatening the otherwise former vibrant and hopeful agency that gave farmers hope and a lifeline for their activities.

Despite the High Court orders, the KTDA Directors, otherwise known as the Mlolongo Directors have continued to execute duties and in the process potentially exposed the 650,000-farmer organization to millions in losses in terms of unreasonable legal fees and fines.

The illegitimacy of the current management of KTDA emanated from the High Court of Kenya Constitutional Division on March 24, 2021, that stayed/barred the implementation of Executive Order No. 3 of 2021 (March 12, 2021), which had directed the re-organization of KTDA Holdings, its subsidiaries, and factory company elections.

Since the ruling and the orders by the court, the Mlolongo Directors have been carrying out publicity, and other related activities despite being in office illegitimately since March 2021 when their authority was annulled by the High Court. They are acting in total disregard for the law and putting more than half a million farmers at risk.

It is the smallholder tea farmer that stands to lose their hard-earned money due to publicity and other related activities being undertaken by the current Kenya Tea Development Agency (KTDA) leadership, whose authority has been declared illegitimate by a court of law.

The KTDA house is on fire. Prudent firefighters are needed immedietly.
