Maybe We Need The Adanis After All

So, there was no fuel at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA). Flights for Kenya Airways and Jambojet, both within and without the country were disrupted for hours. Passengers had their schedules canceled and we are moving on like nothing happened.

One plane was already in the air, full of passengers when it was made to turn back, hovered around Nairobi then back at JKIA. Passengers had to fly 24 hours later. It was a national shame, to say the least. And the fact that we are behaving normally is more scarier.

And what did CS Energy say? The main pump at JKIA was to service the planes for fuel was malfunctioned. He was like, “No further details your honor!” And we want to brush this under the carpet like we always do. Hell NO.

Can you imagine, an international airport, the face of the country, the entry, and exit to the heart of Kenya not being able to fly planes, not because there is a shortage of fuel but because the pump to fuel the aircraft had malfunctioned?

We are making a joke of ourselves and exposing ourselves to international ridicule. Imagine Tanzanians forgetting their troubles and using VPN to go online and make fun of us. What have we brought ourselves to? Is there a way out?

Have you been at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport lately? Have you witnessed the confusion at that place, especially at local departures and entries? Have you seen the crowds, the disorder, the dirty washrooms, and the total disregard for passengers?

At JKIA, passengers are the customers. But as it is at the moment, JKIA doesn’t treat passengers as customers. Goods, especially fruits, are treated better at JKIA than passengers.

Maybe we need the Adanis. The anger and the noise have blinded us but that airport is going down, and it is going down fast if we don’t have someone to rescue it out. The current humans running it are taking it down.

Those who have been to Abeid Amani Karume International Airport in Zanzibar will tell you that JKIA is a joke. Zanzibar is not even a country but its international airport is something else in terms of architecture, friendly staff, and amenities including an automatic strong WiFi.

They say love your own but loving JKIA in its current status is living in denial. Maybe we need the Adanis after all.
