Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu has been arrested over corruption allegations at the Supreme Court building in Nairobi.

The Deputy CJ was, on Tuesday, taken to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for questioning.

Noordin Haji, Director of Public Prosecutions, urgently called for a press conference regarding the matter immediately after her arrest. The Judicial Service Commission (JSC), which is her employer, had engaged in meetings in a row on Tuesday morning where Mwilu was present where the media is yet to discover whether the employer was grilling her before reaching to the conclusion of releasing her to the DCI.

Investigations into Mwilu’s lifestyle surround transactions that involve people who were linked to the now collapsed Imperial Bank.

Mwilu’s arrest has been eminent and comes at a time when the Government has declared war on corruption which is eating up more than a half of its budget.
