Tuskys Supermarkets finalized its 8-day roadshow last Sunday. The roadshow which aimed at celebrating Tuskys’ 25 years of existence was filled with fun activities including entertainment from various artists like Bahati and a mega sale held in all branches as a way of giving back to the loyal Tuskys customers. At the climax of the Silver Jubilee roadshow was the launch of Tuskys foundation known as the Joram Kamau Foundation, which will carry out the Adopt a School Project.

The foundation will be used as a way to address various social issues affecting the society through ways such as empowering the youth, providing education for the less fortunate and promoting youth entrepreneurship to help combat poverty, while renovating schools that are in bad condition.

Speaking during the company’s Silver Jubilee celebrations-cum launch of the foundation at Cathay Hotel in Nakuru last Sunday, Tuskys Chairman John Kago said that the management agreed to give back to the society by educating children with poor backgrounds in honor of the supermarket’s founder, Joram Kamau.

Mr. Kago said this was in line with the dream of their father who passed on a few years ago. “There are things that our father did which we need to continue from where he left. He educated many children and visited the poor,” he said.

The Adopt a School Project is ongoing on the internet where a number of schools have been nominated by the public for renovation. The project is also trying to make schools, especially in the rural areas, more conducive for learning.

With help from Tuskys and invited suppliers, selected schools will have their infrastructure renovated and their facilities upgraded. Mentorship programs will be offered to help point out why students are underperforming or dropping out of schools, the adoption period will be a minimum of 2 years depending on how long the school needs for improvement in an effort to provide quality education.
