The creation of the counties through devolution meant that most of the functions that were previously handled by the National Government were to be devolved to the county governments. Among other things that went to the county governments was money, public money.
All the developments meant to take place in the counties are due to the contributions that the public makes through the taxes they pay and, therefore, there is need to make sure that these funds are spent on the right projects, at the right time as well as at the right place.
The Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) is an automated system that makes sure that public funds that have been pumped into the counties are used appropriately and for the purpose that they were intended for. A lot of public money has been lost through unscrupulous procurement processes in the counties because the process was always done manually and behind closed doors, but IFMIS has made sure that procurement is now transparent by being carried on a platform that makes it easy to track all transactions that go into tender procurement. Everything, from the awarding of the tender to the remitting of the payments is done electronically.
IFMIS is the savior Kenya needs in this day and age of rampant corruption and embezzlement among those entrusted with public office.
