10th WTO Conference to Start in Nairobi

The 10th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization will kick off today on 14th to 18th this month of December 2015 in Nairobi.

This is the first ever World Trade Organization conference to be held in Africa since the inception of WTO in 1995 and Kenya becomes the first African country to host the world event.

The conference brings together top decision makers from more than 160 countries around the world and it is expected to yield economic fruits for the African continent which seems to have been affected by the wavering global economic situation.

Economic analysts have deemed the conference timely for the African economies given the fact World Trade Organization (WTO) is the organ that makes key decisions on matters relating to multilateral trade agreements that affects nations.

The conference, according to analysts is not only important to the institution itself in terms of addressing challenges facing its members but also beneficial to the continent of Africa as a whole.

Already economic expectations in Kenya are high for the three days that the conference will take place.

The hotel industry is expected to benefit in terms of both the accommodation as well as providing the general catering services.

Kenya airways, which has been ailing economically for the better part of this year has already announced that it will take this opportunity to provide transport services to the visitors.

Kenya also hopes to market her brand Kenya to the different nations that will be represented at the conference.

Among the objectives of WTO are the trying to raise the living standards for member States, ensuring full employment of the inhabitants of the member states, creating a large and steady volume of real income and expansion of the production of both the products and services among others.

This year has been of blessings to Kenya in terms of visitors. The first one was President Barack Obama who visited Kenya as the first sitting president of USA, the second was from Pope Francis as he made his first ever tour to Africa and now the country is hosting the first ever WTO conference in Africa.
