Leading Edible Oils and Hygiene Personal Care products manufacturer Bidco Africa awarded 20 different winners with cash prizes totaling a million shillings at a ceremony in Thika on Thursday afternoon.
The prizes are for the ‘I am Happy Healthy Living’ competition; Kenya’s first crowdsourcing multi-media competition. Bidco Africa will use the winning submissions to make a television advert.
To win, participants had to submit creative, fun and unique photo or video expressions of the Bidco Africa tagline ‘Happy Healthy Living’ through the HHL App downloadable from the Google Play store or on the web.
“Happy Healthy Living is not just a line or a slogan. It’s a genuine desire that we all share and this competition was our way of reminding people this fact,” Vimal Shah Bidco Africa CEO said.
“It’s also a way to show that there is a star in all of us. We are all stars and this competition has allowed thousands of people to showcase their stardom in a happy, healthy way.” he added.
From 5,000 submissions the judges’ panel composed of Bidco Africa marketing staff and selected creative agencies selected nine video and 10 photo winners. The former received 100,000 Kes each and the latter 10,000 Kes each.
“I was not expecting it. I heard the ad on the TV and I thought that sounds easy. I took a photo and here I am,” Asim Mughal a photo winner.
“I cannot describe the feeling of being told you have won 100,000 bob in January. It’s beyond happiness,” Charles Karumi the first video winner said.
“I didn’t even do much; I just took my phone and an old camera and shot what makes me happy and healthy,” he adds.
The winning entries convey an interesting range of activities and emotions- from remarkable adrenaline pumping midair shots to cute images of babies covered in Yoghurt to heartwarming smiles.
