Kenya’s inflation rose to 6.39 percent from 5.80 percent in June, according to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) on Friday.
“Between June and July, food and non-alcoholic drinks’ index increased by 1.12 per cent. This was as a result of increase in prices of some food items which outweighed those that declined,” said in a statement.
“The year on year food inflation was 10.78 per cent,” it added.

The transport index went up 1.13 percent in July on the back of the increases in the prices of petrol and diesel.
“On average, prices of diesel rose from KSh 74.69 per litre in June to KSh 84.20 in July 2016 an increase of 12.73 per cent.”
The Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas and Other Fuels’ Index, decreased by 0.15 per cent. This was due to lower prices of electricity and cooking gas in July 2016 compared with the previous month.
