The Transformation of Kiambu County: Land, Housing & Physical Planning

The vision of County Government of Kiambu in regard to land, housing and physical planning is to provide quality land management for sustainable development of Kiambu County while the main mission is to promote an integrated framework in spatial planning and infrastructure development for social, economic and environmental well-being of the County.

Kiambu County aims at providing spatial planning strategies for promoting sustainable rural and urban management and development, providing efficient land and property management for effective county land documentation and land taxation as well as promoting and facilitating the development of decent housing in sustainable environments.

Currently, in conjunction with the World Bank under the Nairobi Metropolitan Services Improvement Project (NaMSIP) and the Kenya Municipal Program (KMP), the following projects are ongoing:

The diagram below shows different kinds of projects undertaken by the County Government of Kiambu as well as their current stages:

The County Government is also in the process of urban renewal and redevelopment and this includes redevelopment of dilapidated county housing and renew decaying neighborhoods into modern towns, attracting and promoting private sector investment in housing and infrastructure development within the county, re-development and face-lift of old and dilapidated County residential estates. Jamuhuri, Ofafa and Starehe (Jamofasta) Estates within Thika sub-county and Ruiru town identified as the pilot project.
