Many households in Kenya have embraced the trend of including tubers in the breakfast apart from just dwelling on wheat products. Tubers include irish potatoes, cassava and sweet potatoes.
A 99-kilogram bag of cassava retailed as follows in some towns across the country: 2,200 shillings in Nairobi, 2,400 shillings in Kisumu, 2,000 shillings in Nakuru and 1,800 shillings in Eldoret.
Sweet potatoes were being sold at 3,200 shillings in Nairobi for a 98-kilogram bag, 3,000 shillings in Nakuru, 2,500 shillings and 2,200 shillings in Eldoret.

With the dry season, there is shortage in the vegetable market especially areas that are outside Nairobi. For this reason, a 126-kilogram bag of cabbages was retailing at 2,500 shillings in Kitale, 2,100 shillings in Kisumu, 1,800shillings in Eldoret, 1,650 shillings in Nairobi and 1,200 shillings in Nakuru.
A 64-kilogram bag of tomatoes has also gone up in terms of the market prices as compared to 3 months ago and it is being sold as follows: 5,600 shillings in Eldoret, 5,500 shillings in Kitale, 4,500 shillings in Kisumu, 3,900 shillings in Nairobi and 3,500 shillings in Nakuru.
