Kenyan Shilling Weakens Against Dominant Currencies one Week in Row

The Kenyan shilling has maintained the weakening trending seven days running against the US Dollar, Sterling Pound, and the Euro.

Against the US Dollar, the Kenyan Shilling weakened by 0.80 percent year-to-date while against the Sterling Pound, the Kenyan Shilling went down by 6.62 percent. The shilling maintained the same trend against the Euro, weakening by 8.13 percent.

On the Nairobi Security Exchange, the market turnover bourse declined by 45.40 percent to USD 5.5 million, an equivalent of 565.3 million shillings from Thursday’s trading. The NSE 20 rose by 0.92 percent to close at 3,442.38 while the NASI rose by 1.04 percent to close at 147.07.

Looking at the peers on the East African Community, in Uganda, the USE ALSI rose by 0.74 percent to close at 1,674.14 while the USE LCI reduced by 0.33 percent to close at 367.59 and in Rwanda, the RSI and RASI remained unchanged to close at 118.06 and 126.99 respectively.
