Kenyan Shilling Extends the Weakening Trend Into the New Week

The Kenyan shilling has extended its weakening trend into the new weak by weakening further against the US Dollar, the Sterling Pound, and the Euro.

On Monday, the Kenyan shilling weakened against the US Dollar by 1.1 percent on a year-to-date basis. The shilling, also, weakened against the Sterling Pound by 5.6 percent on the same year-to-date basis and against the Euro, the Kenyan Shilling weakened by 8.2 percent.

On the Kenyan Stock Marke, the market turnover at the bourse dropped 84.0 percent to USD 3.95 million with this being an equivalent of 409.16 million shillings from Friday’s trading.

The NSE 20 gained 1.17 percent to close at 3,582.76 while NASI Index dropped 0.72 percent to close at 152.97 while foreign investors, on the other hand, assumed a net selling position by accounting for 39.7 percent of total market sales and 30.9 percent of total market purchases.

At the East African Community Markets, in Rwanda, the RSI and RASI indices lost 1.13 percent and 1.85 percent to close at 115.50 and 124.47 respectively while in Uganda, the USE ALSI and USE LCI gained 0.11 percent and 0.04 percent to close at 1,676.81 and 368.26 respectively.
