Market Turnover at the Bourse Jumps 75 Percent Even as the Shilling Weakens Further

The market turnover at the bourse jumped 75.0 percent to USD 8.35 million on Wednesday, which is an equivalent of 863.64 million shillings from Tuesday’s trading.

The NSE 20 and NASI Indices went up 0.5 percent and 0.7 percent to close at 3,472.96 and 149.29 respectively while foreign investors assumed a net selling position by accounting for 59.9 percent of total market sales and 58.0 percent of total market purchases.

The Kenyan shilling, on the other hand, has maintained its weakening trend against the US Dollar, the Sterling Pound, and the Euro.

Against the US Dollar, the Kenyan Shilling weakened by 0.8 percent in a year-to-date basis. The shilling weakened further against the Sterling Pound by 6.3 percent. The shilling also maintained the same trend against the Euro, weakening by 8.8 percent on a year-to-date basis.

On the East African Community markets, in Rwanda, the RSI and RASI indices held constant at 118.06 and 126.99 respectively while in Uganda, the USE ALSI lost 1.0 percent to close at 1,661.68 while USE LCI  held constant at 362.96.
