Paul Kagame has won Rwanda’s presidential election securing a third term in office and extending his 17 years in power.
The National Electoral Commission’s Executive secretary Charles Munyaneza announced that the incumbent had secured 98.66 percent of votes counted from Friday’s election, the 59-year-old former guerrilla leader had secured 98.66 percent.

“We expect that even if we get 100 percent of votes, there will not be any change,” he said.
Kagame ran against Frank Habineza of the Democratic Green Party of Rwanda – the only permitted opposition party – and independent candidate Philippe Mpayimana.
Three potential candidates were disqualified for allegedly failing to fulfil requirements including collecting enough signatures.
