President Uhuru Kenyatta has urged the opposition to seek redress from the court if they are aggrieved from the electoral body’s declaration on who won the August General Elections. “I truly believe there is no single Kenyan anywhere who wants to see violence, looting and demonstrations that end up destroying property.
But if there are those who feel aggrieved and they are not willing to accept, there are also constitutionally laid down procedures,” said Uhuru on Monday at his Harambee Office.
Uhuru also urged the police officers to protect peaceful protesters but not those who loot. “Kenyans have said the election is behind them and majority have returned to work. Don’t interrupt the lives of others. As a government, we will not allow destruction of property loss of lives and looting.”
Raila Odinga, the NASA Presidential candidate lost to Uhuru in the elections. He said he will address the nation on Tuesday.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declared President Uhuru Kenyatta the winner of the August 8th election having complied with provisions of Article 138 (4), that is, attained 54.07 percent of the valid votes cast and at least 25 percent of the votes cast in 35 counties.
The Presidential election has to be challenged by Friday this week and the petition determined within two weeks.
