A crisis meeting to end the nurses strike ended without a resolution on Friday.
The Council of Governors had called for a consultative meeting between the ministry of Health, Public Service Commission, Salaries and Remuneration Commission and the County public Service boards HR committee.
Instead the meeting resolved that, all nurses who have not returned to work stand to be sacked and thereafter, the counties to advertise their positions.
“Therefore, the Council of Governors mandated the 47 County Governments to deal with their respective employees, who are the nurses and Kenya Health Professionals in resolving the disputes.”
The meeting that was chaired by the Turkana County Governor Josephat Nanok also resolved that the Kenya Health Professional, including Clinical Officers strike do not have Recognition Agreements (RAs) with the 47 County Governments and the respective industrial actions are illegal.
However, the nurses union stands ground, “Our resolve wont be changed by threats and intimidation. Kindly sign the CBA.”
Nurses in Kenya are demanding monthly allowances totaling Sh25,400 each. The demands include: Sh15,400 health risk allowance, Sh5,000 extraneous allowance, Sh5,000 responsibility allowance. Sh50,000 uniform allowance, paid once annually.

Nurses went on strike following delays in implementing an agreement that will give them pay rises. The union had held meetings with the governors and discussed a draft CBA which was agreed upon only to be rejected.
