The country’s inflation has dropped to 7.06 percent year-on-year in September, from 8.04 percent in August due to a fall in some food items.
“Between August and September 2017, Food and Non-Alcoholic Drinks’ Index decreased by 1.28 percent. This was due to fall in the cost of some food items which was mainly attributed to a relief from a situation of depressed supply of goods and services as experienced in August 2017. As a result, the year on year food inflation dropped to 11.50 percent in September 2017,” says the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).
Genghis Capital Analysts note that “Inflation has perched at an average 9.28 percent in the first eight months of the year; up from an average 6.23 percent in a similar period last year.”
