Nairobi County  suspends ban on matatus for one month

Nairobi County has lifted  the ban on Public Service Vehicles from the Central Business District  for a month.

In a gazette notice signed by the acting county secretary Leboo ole Morintat revoked all previous gazette notices/letters allocating any other place as picking and dropping areas in CBD.

The ban which was to take effect this Wednesday

Mike Mbuvi Sonko, the Nairobi Governor during a consultative meeting with the Nairobi Matatu Owners, he said, “We shall give you one month to self regulate. Failure to that, we shall enforce the gazette notice.”

The governor emphasised that during the period the PSVs will have to ensure there is no double parking at any given stage, no obstruction and no U-turns at any stage.

Sonko said the sector will be provided with 300 County Askaris to help their respective Saccos there is flow of traffic and discipline is enforced.

“But, if you have to break the law, it will catch up with you. Protect your businesses,” emphasized Sonko.
