IEBC suspends repeat poll in 27 constituencies with over 1.7 voters

The IEBC has suspended repeat elections in several protest-hit areas in Kenya until further notice citing persistent insecurity.

Wafula Chebukati, chairman of the IEBC said, “The postponed election scheduled to take place in the following 27 constituencies on 28th October, is rescheduled until further notice by the Commission, in accordance with the law.”

The constituencies affected include: Alego Usonga, Awendo,Bondo, Gem, Ugenya, Homabay Town, Kabondo Kasipul, Karachuonyo, Kasipul. Kisumu Central, Kisumu east. Kisumu West, Muhoroni, Ndhiwa, Nyakach, Nyando, Nyatike. Rangwe, Rarienda, Rongo, Seme, Suba North, Suba South, Suna East, Suna West, Ugunja and Uriri.

According to the commission, the constituencies represent 3,635 polling stations with 1,770,275 registered voters.

“Further, 5 polling stations in Turkana Central with a total of 696 registered voters are scheduled to conduct elections on Saturday.”
