Uber, Taxify, Little Cab and other industry players have partnered with the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to curb drunk-driving and provide alternatives and solutions that will ensure road safety.
The ‘FikaSalama’ campaign which began December 1st, aims to reduce road accidents and fatalities associated with drunk-driving by encouraging revellers to take alternative transport home instead of driving while under the influence of alcohol during the festive season.
The campaign will also be used to educate the public on responsible drinking habits like spacing alcohol with water and eating well before consuming alcohol.
According to NTSA data, the total number of road accident related deaths reduced by 10 per cent from 3,150 cases reported in the financial year 2016, compared to 2,834 cases in 2017.
“The partnership is important in ensuring that we save lives. We want to make this festive season the safest ever by giving people a convenient and reliable ride back home,” said Francis Meja the NTSA Director-General.
