Uhuru Directs all 3 Mn Secondary Students Be Enrolled to NHIF

President Uhuru Kenyatta has directed the Education Ministry to work with the Health ministry to enroll all 3 million secondary school students into the NHIF programme from January 2018.

Uhuru on Tuesday was briefed on this year’s KCSE results by Education CS Dr. Fred Matiang’i and his team.

The CS said the results showed a normal curve as reforms in the exam system is entrenched.

The President further directed the Education CS and the head of the KNEC Prof. George Magoha to institutionalize the reforms so that the achievement made in the last few years is maintained.

The President also asked the Teachers Service Commission to reward principals, schools and subject teachers who excelled to promote continued high performance.

This year’s exams have improved compared to last year’s where the total number of students who managed to score grade A was 142 from 141 in 2016.

On the other hand, the number of students who scored grade A- this year declined to 2,714 from 4,645 in 2016.

A total of 615,773 candidates registered for the 2017 National Examinations that were done in 9,350 centers between November 6 and 29.
