Major Power Outage Plunge Nairobi into Darkness

A major power outage hit Nairobi and it’s environs Tuesday evening just before 6pm plunging the county into darkness.
According to Kenya Power, it was as a result of “.…power system disturbance”.

In a subsequent statement, the company said “A technical hitch emanating from our transmission system,” had caused the power outage in various parts of the country.

Parts affected included Nairobi, Mount Kenya, Nyanza, Western, Rift Valley, and Coastal region.

“The faulty section has been isolated and efforts to restore supply have commenced beginning with Mount Kenya and Nairobi regions.”

It took over four hours to restore power to parts that were affected.

Coincidentally, a similar outage occurred on the same day in 2017.

Kenya Power termed it as a technical hitch at Ndenderu, a Nairobi North Substation.
