Japanese construction firm, World Kaihatsu Kogyo (WKK) contracted to continue with the expansion of Ngong Road Phase 2 into a dual-carriageway at a cost of Ksh 2.264 Billion.
According to Eng. Silas Kinoti, Acting Director General Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), “WKK is just finished phase 1 and is set to continue working on the next 2.2 km remaining section.”
The expansion will begin early March this year.
The scope of works include construction of dual carriageway, improve junctions, bus bays, non-motorised transport, an intelligent transport system for Phase 1 and 11 and the landscaping for the preservation of the environment and beautification.
The government funded the dualing of Dagoretti Corner – Karen Junction section at Ksh 1.98 billion.
“The dualling is intended to ease movement of traffic, improve urbanisation and bring economic growth and comes as part of the construction and infrastructure upgrades meant to elevate Nairobi City’s status and its environs and achieve the Vision 2030 objective of transforming the status of the country to a middle-income economy,” said Kinoti.
