12 Nominees Shortlisted for this year’s Zuri Awards

12 nominees have been shortlisted for this year’s Zuri Awards that seek to recognize and celebrate remarkable women who have left or are still leaving a mark on society. This is already the second year the Zuri Awards are running after Go Gaga Experiental conceived the idea to honor unsung Kenyan heroines.

The various efforts of the inaugural Zuri Awards participants received a significant boost by being associated with the award. Some nominees and winners of the Zuri Awards have seen their organizations grow as a result of the increased recognition and awareness of their great work while others have gone on study trips abroad.

This year’s nominees will battle it out in the NGO, Impact, Innovation and Leadership categories. Different from last year, the Corporate category was canceled after only one organization was nominated. Corporates need to clearly do more charitable work and promote their efforts.

Samburu Girls Foundation, Kesho Alliance, and Uwezo Girls Empowerment will battle it out in the NGO Award category while Halima Abba Ali, Carolyne Nyambura, and Iladho Galgalo are contesting in the Impact Award category.

The Innovation Award category will either go to Fatuma Adan, Jackline Oloo, or Wanjiru Chabeda while Dr. Chao Mbogo, Josephine Ndambuki, and Venoranda Rebecca Kuboka are in the race for the Leadership Award.

The nominees have until March 9 to promote their stories and reasons why they should win. They will be helped in doing so through videos sponsored by Go Gaga Experiental. The final winners will be announced at a gala dinner at the Villa Rosa Kempinski in Nairobi.
