Nation Media Group came under crisis on Wednesday morning after its newspaper, the Daily Nation ran a fake funeral announcement bearing the portrait of billionaire businessman Jimi Wanjigi.
The death announcement which was under the name James Richard Wanjagi stated that the alleged person had died as a result of a failed armed robbery.
More interesting was the fact that the wife of the ‘diseased’ has the same name as that of Mr. Wanjigi’s, Irine.
Nation Media Group has since apologized and said that it has referred the matter to the police including the source of the announcement.
Mr. Wanjigi is a staunch supporter of the National Super Alliance (NASA) and a confidant to Raila Odinga. Early this week, the government revoked his passport on suspicion that he took part in an illegal oath.
