Shilling Retracts Against US Dollar, Pound but Holds Ground Against the Euro

The Kenyan shilling exhibited mixed performance on Wednesday by weakening against the US Dollar and the Sterling Pound respectively but remaining resilient against the Euro.

The shilling slightly weakened against the dollar by 0.003 percent from Tuesday’s level to end the day at 101.30 shillings.

Against the Sterling Pound, the local currency weakened by 0.26 percent from Tuesday’s level to close the day at 141.89 shillings.

Against the Euro, however, the shilling strengthened 0.34 percent from Tuesday’s level to 125.04 shillings.

Kenyan Stock Market

The market turnover at the bourse declined 22.4 percent to USD 10.11 million or an equivalent to 1,024.5 million shillings from Tuesday’s trading.

The NSE 20 rose 0.08 percent to close at 3,730.24 while NASI declined 0.02 percent to close at 181.71.

Foreign investors assumed a net buying position by accounting for 77.6 percent of total market purchases and 41.4 percent of total market sales.

EAC Markets   

In Rwanda, the RSI and RASI held constant at 133.21 and 133.17 respectively while in Uganda, the USE ALSI and USE gained 0.44 percent and 0.33 percent to close at 2,074.00 and 391.84 respectively.
