Bidco Africa Shines with the EABC award for manufacturing excellence

Bidco Africa continues to shine after being distinguished as the winner of the Best East African Company in the Manufacturing category at East African Business Council (EABC) Business Excellence awards.

The company also emerged a winner in the green economy category for environmental management efforts, and the second in the Innovation category. The success aligns itself with the enterprise’s commitment to becoming a brand leader throughout the continent by 2030.

Bidco group emphasized its commitment to improving operations to ensure efficiency while producing the best quality products. It has already invested in several modern manufacturing units in its factories to increase the efficiency with which it produces its products.

The facilities include two refineries, a soap manufacturing plant, a baking powder plant and most recently a 2 Billion shillings detergent plant, with a production capacity of 3,000 tonnes per month to cater for the East African market.

Speaking during the event, Bidco Africa Chairman, Vimal Shah said that the awards were evidence of the company’s continuous innovation and excellence in the Fast-Moving Consumer Goods industry that had led to its sustained growth.

He pointed out that the company’s outstanding annual turnover, increase in revenue from exports and geographical expansion were a few factors that spearheaded the win.

“It is indeed an honor to be acknowledged at a prestigious event like this. It’s a great privilege for us to win this category as manufacturing is a very important sector in this part of the world. This award is recognition of our efforts and demonstrates our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and continued advancement,” he added.

Bidco’s distinction in the Green Economy category was attributed to its commitment to reducing carbon footprint by utilizing renewable energy sources to power its plants.

The company uses up to 70 percent of its own generated energy from renewable sources while consuming only 30 percent from the national grid. It plans to further reduce its dependence on the national grid with the implementation of a project to replace all the roofs in its premises with solar panels.

This is the first edition of the awards, which were launched by the East African Business Council on 10th January 2018, to recognize and showcase businesses that have achieved excellence in various aspects of their operations across East Africa, keeping with the spirit of the East African integration.

The awards received a total of 109 entries from East African countries. Equity Holdings Ltd won the Overall Best Regional Company award category, having shown expansion and reach across the EAC region, with a demonstrable impact on the EAC economies, in terms of employment, innovative solutions or creation of wealth.
