A Win for Groundnut Farmers in Kitale as Prices Remain Consistently High

Market prices for a 110-kilogram bag of Groundnuts have remained high in Kitale where it retails at 14,300 shillings same as last week.

The high market prices are caused by the fact that Kitale is known for high scale production of maize thus Groundnuts farming is on small scale. Kisumu enjoys the lowest market price of 10,000 shillings for the same quantity of 110 kilograms.

A 90-kilogram bag of Green grams, on the other hand, is going at 9,600 shillings in Kisumu, 8,600 shillings in Nairobi, 8,100 shillings in Nakuru, 8,000 shillings in Kitale, 7200 shillings in Eldoret and 6,300 shillings in Mombasa.

The table below gives a summary of market prices for different other commodities in selected towns across the country:

A 99-kilogram bag of Fresh Cassava is retailing highest in Kisumu at 3,000 shillings and lowest in Nairobi at 2,300 shillings.

Sweet Potatoes, on the other hand, have the following market prices in selected towns: 3,100 shillings in Mombasa, 3,000 shillings in Kisumu, 2,800 shillings in Nairobi, 2,600 shillings in Eldoret and 2,000 shillings in Kitale.
