All mobile operators have been issued with a directive to ensure that unregistered and partially registered SIM cards are deactivated with immediate effect.
This is according to a notice from the Communications Authority (CA) stating that revelations have shown that Mobile Network Operators and subscribers are not complying with the requirements of the Kenya Information and Communications Regulations, 2015.
“It has come to the attention of the Authority that Mobile Network Operators and Subscribers are not complying with the requirements of the Kenya Information and Communications (Registration of SIM cards) regulations, 2015,” read the notice from one of the dailies.
The notice went further to remind subscribers that part of the regulation provides that a person who intends to register a SIM-card shall provide full names, identity card, date of birth, physical address, postal address among other particulars.
Subscribers whose SIM Cards will be suspended may be reactivated upon submission of the relevant information to their service provider as stipulated in Rule 5 of the regulations.
