Dry Maize Retailing Averagely at Ksh. 2,607 Across the Country

Rising Food Prices Pushes  Inflation Up Marginally to 4.83pc in Jan Dry Maize

Dry maize is retailing at an average market price of 2,607 shillings across the country for a 90-kilogram bag with Kisumu having the highest market price compared to other towns.

A 90-kilogram bag of dry maize is being sold at 2,800 shillings in Nairobi, 2,600 shillings in Eldoret and Kisii respectively, 2,500 shillings in Nakuru, 2,450 shillings in Mombasa and 2,100 shillings in Kitale.

A 90-kilogram bag of green maize, on the other hand, is being sold as follows in selected towns across the country: 6,400 shillings in Mombasa, 3,000 shillings in Nairobi and Kitale respectively, 2,500 shillings in Nakuru, 2,400 shillings in Kisumu and 1,800 shillings in Eldoret.

Having a look on the beans market, a 90-kilogram bag of Canadian and Rosecoco beans are having almost the same prices in Nairobi, Kisumu, Nakuru and Kitale as shown in the table below:

A 110-kilogram bag of groundnuts is retailing with the following market prices: 15,300 shillings in Kitale, 13,600 shillings in Kisii, 12,600 shillings in Eldoret, 12,430 shillings in Mombasa, 12,000 shillings in Nakuru, 11,200 shillings in Nairobi and 10,000 shillings in Kisumu.

A 90-kilogram bag of green gram, on the other hand, is being sold as follows: 12,600 shillings in Eldoret, 11,700 shillings in Kitale, 9,500 shillings in Nairobi, 8,800 shillings in Kisumu, 6,700 shillings in Nakuru and 6,300 shillings in Mombasa.
