Sonko Nominates Miguna Miguna for Deputy Governor of Nairobi Seat

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has shocked Kenyan’s by nominated Miguna Miguna as his deputy on Wednesday.

In a letter to the Speaker of the county assembly Beatrice Elachi, Sonko stated that Miguna meets all the requirements as provided for in the constitution to be his deputy.

“In regard to the Supreme Court advisory to the appointment of a deputy governor, upon the seat falling vacant, I hereby forward my nominee Lawyer Miguna Miguna to undergo a full vetting process and approval by the County assembly for the position,” Sonko said in the letter.

Nairobi county’s deputy director of Communication Elkana Jacob and Miguna’s lawyer Cliff Ombetta confirmed the appointment noting that he will be presenting the letter to the county assembly on Thursday.

The nomination comes two days after a section of MCAs gave the governor seven days to nominate a deputy or face legal action.

Miguna Miguna was deported to Canada by the Kenyan after he failed to comply with the government’s demands to settle his dispute over his citizenship. The government had to cancel his planned return to the country on Wednesday after the Immigration Department insisted he must apply for Kenyan citizenship before he can be issued with a passport.
