Nairobi Households Paying More for Groundnuts

Households in Nairobi are paying more for a 90-kilogram bag of Groundnuts which is retailing with a market price of 11,000 shillings compared to those in Nakuru who are buying the same quantity at 9,000 shillings.

With different commodities from the legume family in the market, different towns across the country have varied market prices and a 90-kilogram bag of Njahi is being sold at 12,000 shillings in Eldoret, 9,000 shillings in Nairobi, Kitui and Isiolo respectively, 6,300 shillings in Mombasa and 5,400 shillings in Nakuru.

Fresh peas are also in pleanty across towns and a 90-kilogram bag is retailing as follows: 6,120 shillings in Busia, 4,080 shillings in Isiolo, 4,000 shillings in Mombasa, 3,825 shillings in Nairobi, 2,500 shillings in Kisumu and Nakuru respectively and 1,530 shillings in Eldoret.

The cereal market is also performing well with Finger millet having the highest prices compared to Sorghum and Maize.

A 90-kilogram bag of Dry Maize is retailing at 3,000 shillings in Kisumu, 2,700 shillings in Kitui and Isiolo respectively, 2,600 shillings in Nairobi and Mombasa respectively, 2,200 shillings in Nakuru, 1,980 shillings in Busia and 1,800 shillings in Eldoret.
