Shilling Strengthens Against the Dollar But Receives a Beating From the Euro

Against the US Dollar, the Kenyan Shilling strengthened 0.26 percent to close at 100.39 with a 2.75 percent strong on a year-to-date.

Against the Sterling Pound, the Kenyan Shilling weakened 0.37 percent to close at 133.08. The shilling is, however, still strong at 4.09 percent year-to-date.

Against the Euro, the Kenya Shilling weakened 0.30 percent to close at 117.55 but still resilient at 4.65 percent on a year-to-date.

Kenyan Stock Market

Market turnover at the bourse stood at USD 4.17 million or an equivalent to 418.2million shillings, a 30.5 percent decrease from Monday’s turnover.

The NSE 20 declined 1.09 percent to close at 3,290.40 while NASI rose 0.68 percen to close at 172.22.

Foreign investors assumed a net selling position by accounting for 57.9 percent of total market sales and 35.4 percent of total market purchases.

EAC Markets

Rwanda: RSI and RSE ALSI held at 131.93 and 131.65 respectively.

Uganda: USE ALSI was down 0.97 percent to close at 2,027.87 while USE LCI increased 0.83 percent to close at 424.67.

Tanzania: DSEI dropped 0.01 percent to close at 2,288.31 while TSI held constant at 4,207.36.
