English has been known as the only language that is used for web content globally. Rarely do other languages feature whenever you ask about top web content languages.
According to a study done by W3Techs, English accounts for 51.2 percent of the languages used for web content followed at a far distant by Russian which accounts for 6.8 percent.
Among the top ten languages used for web content, there is no single African language that features. There have been efforts to integrate Swahili as one of the main languages for web especially in East Africa but the move is yet to pick up.
Here are the top 10 languages used for web content around the world:
- English – 51.2%
- Russian – 6.8%
- German – 5.6%
- Japanese – 5.5%
- Spanish – 5.1%
- French – 4.1%
- Portuguese – 2.6%
- Italian – 2.4%
- Chinese – 2.1%
- Polish and Persian – 1.7%
Other languages include Turkish which accounts for 1.4 percent, Dutch at 1.3 percent, Korean at 1.0 percent. Czech at 0.9 percent and Arabic at 0.7 percent.
