DStv subscribers have a reason to smile as three new DStv Now apps have been added for lean-back uninterrupted viewing on big screen TVs. The apps allow the subscribers to These apps make it possible for DStv subscribers to convert any TV in their homes into a user-friendly DStv hub without using a decoder.
DStv Now is an internet-based streaming service that features live sports, live TV, live shows, and movies on Catch Up. Now the service is available through three new lean-back apps. These apps are available for Samsung smart TVs – selected models from 2015 onwards – the fourth generation and newer versions of Apple TV, and Media players running Android TV – Google certified devices only. Additional brands of smart TVs will also get their apps soon.
Launched in 2014 and originally designed as a mobile-first product, DStv Now has surpassed the idea of having apps for Android, iOS smartphones and tablets. Over time, new usage cases emerged such as providing an easy way get all of DStv’s content on TVs not connected to a decoder.
According to Mark Rayner, the MultiChoice South Africa Chief Operating Officer the original idea when DStv now was launched was to offer DStv subscribers a new way of catching up with their favorite shows at home or not.
“What’s surprised us is how popular it’s also been as a method of getting DStv content on to other TVs around the home. By adding these new apps we’ve made that process a whole lot easier and more convenient – no fussing with cables or casting, and no decoder needed,” he added.
DStv Now is available free to all DStv customers and the specific content available is linked to the customer’s DStv package. With DStv Now, two different streams can be viewed on separate devices simultaneously. This means a single account can be used to watch TV via a decoder in the lounge, a movie on a tablet in the bedroom via DStv Now, and sport on another smart TV using DStv Now. It’s also a great way for kids who are away from home to get the most from the family’s DStv subscription.
