Top companies in Kenya send home a total of 4,250 employees in 2017 according to an annual report released by the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE).
The 29 companies listed at the NSE were forced to cut down on their workforce to try and cut down on their spending the business environment became tough last year attributed to the prolonged electioneering period.
The listed banks fired 2,142 employees. Most banks embarked on retrenching their staff immediately after the implementation of the interest capping law.
ARM Cement and Trans-Century send home a combined workforce of 1,068.
