A High Court in Bungoma has temporarily stopped the implementation of the 16 percent Value Added Tax on petroleum products.
In the case presented by a group of youth through advocate Ken Amondi, petitioners said that the Treasury CS Henry Rotich flouted critical constitutional principles and value when he imposed the tax.
The matter will be mentioned on the 12th of September in Kisumu. The implementation of the 16 percent VAT had seen fuel products moving up by between 11 and 13 shillings.
Fuel truckers downed their tools on Monday in an effort to compel the government to suspend the implementation of the same, a move that has led to an acute fuel shortage across the country.
