The Kenyan shilling has continued to reign supreme against major currencies as the year snails own, further proving those who had predicted its doom wrong.
On Monday, commercial banks in Kenya were buying a US Dollar at an average price of 101.0044 shillings and sold it at 101.2044 shillings, a drop of 0.001 percent from Friday.
The Sterling Pound was bought at 131.2514 shillings and sold at 131.4183 shillings while the Euro fetched 116.2100 shillings for banks after being bought at 115.9483 shillings.
For those who had a South African Rand, Kenyan banks were taking it for 7.0734 shillings and selling it at 7.0928 shillings. Market analysts say the shillings is slowly gaining traction against the rand.
The Ugandan shilling is still weak compared to the Kenyan shilling. One Kenyan shilling was fetching 37.2595 Ugandan shillings for the commercial banks after being bought at 37.0808 Ugandan shillings. Economic analysts, however, see the Ugandan currency gaining some traction against the Kenyan currency towards the end of the year.
Just like the Ugandan shilling, the Tanzanian shilling is equally week against the Kenyan shilling but stronger than the Ugandan shilling. A Kenyan shilling was bought at 27.4954 Tanzanian shillings and sold at 27.5551 Tanzanian shillings.
At the same time, the Kenyan shilling was fetching 8.7463 Rwandan Francs from commercial banks and sold at 8.7917 Rwandan Francs.
Across the pond, Banks were buying the Danish kroner at an average of 15.5334 shillings and selling it at 15.5666 shillings while the Indian Rupee was fetching 1.3730 shillings for the local banks and sold at 1.3759 shillings.
A Hongkong Dollar was bought at 12.8842 shillings and sold at 12.9097 shillings while a Singapore Dollar was sold at 73.3631 shillings after being bought at 73.1916 shillings. A Saudi Riyal was fetched 26.9720 shillings for commercial banks upon being bought at 26.9151 shillings.
