300,000 Students Won’t Be Funded Under The Free Education Program

More than 300,000 learners whose detailed have not been captured in the National Education Management System (NEMIS) will not benefit from the government’s free education program.

The government is set to release 36 billion shillings but says only those whose details have been captured in the new system will benefit from the funds.

Stats show that around 500 schools with about 300,000 learners have failed to submit the details of their learners with parents now have to pay more than those already in the system.

30 billion shillings is set to go to secondary schools to cater for free day secondary education (FDSE) while 6 billion shillings will be channeled to primary schools for the free primary education program (FPE).

The Ministry has, however, clarified that the funds for students not within the NEMIS will be disbursed as soon as their schools avail their details within the system.

NEMIS was set to help the government have a database for all the students in the country to enable in planning, budgeting, and distribution of funds.
