Matiang’i Appointed as Chair of All Government Projects

President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to chair a committee mandated to supervise all government projects, including Jubilee’s ‘Big Four’ agenda.

The new post means that Dr. Fred Matiang’i will be in charge of ensuring the delivery of all National Government projects and programmes and will be reporting directly to President Kenyatta.

Matiang’i will also be the chairperson of the newly constituted National Development Implementation and Communication Committee and will be deputized by his Treasury counterpart Henry Rotich.

The team will comprise of all the Cabinet Secretaries, Attorney-General Paul Kihara, and Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

Some of the roles of the committee include monitoring and evaluating the follow-up mechanisms for resources allocated for National Government Priority Programmes and Projects, to ensure proper utilization and realization of the targeted outcomes.

The committee will also be mandated to provide coordinated strategic communication to the Public and other stakeholders on the progress of National Government Programmes and Projects.

Besides the sweeping powers he will have as the chairman of the committee, Dr. Matiang’i was also given a huge chunk of James Macharia’s Transport ministry.

The Interior CS, in President Kenyatta’s Executive Order No. 2 dated the same day as the first, will be in charge of the National Transport and Safety Authority.

President Kenyatta also formed the National Development Implementation Technical Committee that will be chaired by Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho with his Treasury counterpart Kamau Thugge as Vice-Chairperson.

Mr. Kibicho will oversee a team of members consisting various PS’s from various government ministries and departments such as Energy, Planning, Devolution, Health, Crop Development, Industrialization, Lands, Infrastructure, Transport, and Housing.

Solicitor General Kennedy Ogeto, as well as Head of Presidential Delivery Unit Nzioka Waita, will also comprise the team.

In the Executive Order, President Kenyatta also formed the Regional Development Implementation Co-ordination Committee, chaired by the Regional Commissioner, as well as the County Development Implementation Co-ordination Committee, chaired by the County Commissioner.
