Twitter has become such an influential tool, not only for socializing purposes but for governance purposes too.
Globally, President Donald Trump of the United States of America is known for announcing his policies via his official twitter handle @realDonaldTrump. In fact, in the recent past, markets and companies feared his tweets more than anything else.
In Kenya, President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Twitter handle, @UKenyatta is among the active one among government agencies and government officials.
Kenya has 47 County Governors. All of them have twitter handles that they use to relay information to their citizens and fans. Unfortunately, more than 80 percent of these governors have inactive twitter accounts. Some have as low as 300 followers and the majority of them have a boring engagement on Twitter.
Governors Mike Sonko of Nairobi, Ali Hassan Joho of Mombasa, Anne Waiguru of Kirinyaga, Kivutha Kibwana of Makueni, Alfred Mutua of Machakos and Anyang’ Nyong’o of Kisumu are among the most active on Twitter.
Mike Sonko is among the few governors who take time to go through his Twitter handle with people reporting of him replying to some of their concerns both on his timeline and in the Direct Messages (DMs).
