In a statement released on 13th March 2019, the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS), has said that 90 percent of all sanitary towels sold and distributed in the Kenyan market comply with the set standards.

Following the concerns expressed on twitter under the hashtag #MyAlwaysExperience, KEBS carried out quality surveillance and, in the course, drew samples for analysis for all brands of sanitary towels on sale in Kenya.

A total of 135 samples were drawn from the market and after testing, results revealed that 90percent of all samples complied with the standard.

The results have further revealed that products that complied with the standards include the following variants of Always Sanitary Towels – Always ultra, Always platinum, Always Maxi, Always ultra-normal, Always extra-long.

KEBS has, however, launched further investigations that include extensive market surveillance and testing of Always products to ascertain if there truly exists any breach of quality standards.

“The outcomes of analysis will determine the next course of action including market withdrawal of any substandard products,” said KEBS.

KEBS has called on consumers to report any specific complaint through its Toll-free line of 1545 between 8.00 am to 5.00 pm during weekdays or email complaints@kebs.org. Consumers have also been requested to channel complaints through Facebook at Kenya Bureau of Standards and Twitter on @Kebs_ke.
