Huawei will no longer receive android services from Google according to a statement released by Google.
Services like Google Play Store, Gmail, YouTube, and Chrome browser will no longer be accessible on future versions of Huawei devices.
Current owners of Huawei smart gadgets will not be affected by this decision.
The statement comes after the US President Trump ordered that Huawei be blacklisted in the states in what seems to be as a result of China and US woes.
Huawei is the world’s second largest smartphone manufacturer. In 2018, the company shipped over 200 million phones across the globe. It mainly uses the Android operating system on its phones.
In what is viewed as driving the Chinese company to the corner, American companies such as Xilinx, Intel, Broadcom, and Qualcomm had also previously announced that they would no longer supply important software and hardware services to Huawei.
The crumbling of Huawei is highly anticipated as it is difficult to imagine a future for it without the American input market.
Huawei had foreseen such a decision however and has been working on developing its own technology.
China will barely feel the effect of America’s decision since it already banned Google.
Google said it was “complying with the order and reviewing the implications” in their statement.
Huawei has declined to comment.
Huawei will lose Google’s security updates and technical support.
Huawei can, however, still use the version of the Android operating system available through an open source license
