Chaos erupted at Shamberere Technical Training Institute in Kakamega County after a student stabbed another to death on Monday night, June 17.
The two allegedly got into a fight over a girlfriend when one of them, who had armed himself with a knife, stabbed the other student in the chest.
The three students involved in a suspected love triangle are students in the institution under different programs. The attacker is said to have confronted his colleague, accusing him of snatching his girlfriend.
A quarrel erupted between the two men before one drew a knife and stabbed his rival in the chest.
“Unfortunately, the stabbed student collapsed and died,” said Kakamega North Sub County Police Commander Mr. Mwanzo.
Friends to the murdered student, who are reportedly National Youth Service trainees, beat up the attacker and injured him seriously.
Police officers from Malava were called upon to investigate the matter and calm the students.
“We have talked to the students and told them to calm down as the police are investigating the matter. The student who stabbed his fellow to death is receiving treatment at the Malava Sub-County Hospital and will be arraigned for the murder once his condition improves,” said Mr. Mwanzo.
