I joined Co-operative bank immediately I cleared high school, did not even know where I would get the money to deposit in my new year account but they had this account for students that my cousins made so cool to have that I did not want to miss out.
I had acquired my Identity Card (ID) in secondary school so opening a bank account immediately was not such hard. It took me 15 minutes.
I got my YEA account up and running with the first 200 shillings, I had with me with the hope of saving my way to a millionaire if not a billionaire. YEA account is a student account, very friendly, that I must mention and with reasonable charges.
For anybody starting out in life, this is the ticket to realistic saving; it does not sip on your saving with a myriad of transactional charges.
YEA Account Charges are as follows:
- Minimum Opening Balance – Nil
- Minimum Operating Balance – Nil
- Discounted Bank cheques for fees paid for account holders only
- Debit Card- 550 shillings
I have had my YEA account for more than 10 years and never have I felt obliged to open any other account.
Well, I once had a scenario that got me lost as I got so used to using my visa card that I forgot my signature. My visa card expired and in my lack of awareness, thought the card had been damaged.
I resided in Nairobi at the time and visited one of the Co-operative branches in the Central Business District.
I was told I had to go back in Meru to change my signature and so as to pick my ATM card, scared I would always have to cover the long distance whenever I need some of these services, the friendly teller told me all I needed to do was fill a form requesting my account to be transferred to my branch of choice.
I visited Meru and did as requested, five years since I made that trip; my branch is now at my place of choice and I can easily pay for goods and services at my comfort, thank you to my YEA account from Co-operative bank.
