Red and White Irish Potatoes Retailing at Prices of Over Ksh 4,000 a Bag

A market survey carried out by Soko Directory has revealed that the prices of both White and Red Irish potatoes are retailing well over 4,000 shillings.

The average price of a 50 Kg bag of Red Irish potatoes across the markets is 4,066 shillings, with a kilogram going for about 81 shillings.

A 50 Kg bag of Red Irish Potatoes is retailing highest in Kisii at 5,500 shillings, while it is going for 2,800 shillings in Kisumu.

In other major markets, a 50 Kg bag of Red Irish Potatoes is retailing at 3,000 shillings in Nairobi, 4,500 shillings in Mombasa, 3,200 shillings in Eldoret, and 5,400 shillings in Busia.

Meanwhile, prices for White Irish Potatoes are slightly lower than those of Red Irish Potatoes with the average price of White Irish Potatoes being 4,050 shillings.

Malindi has the highest price for a 50 Kg bag of White Irish Potatoes, with buyers buying the commodity at 6,300 shillings.

A 50 Kg bag of White Irish Potatoes is retailing at 3,000 shillings in Nairobi, 4,500 shillings in Mombasa, 3,000 shillings in Kisumu, and 3,000 shillings in Eldoret.

Sweet Potatoes, commonly known as “Ngwaci”, are retailing highest in Eldoret where a 98 Kg bag is being sold at 4,600 shillings, and lowest in Busia where a bag is going for 2,500 shillings.

In other major markets, a 98 Kg bag of Ngwaci is being sold at 3,300 shillings in Nairobi, Kisumu and Kisii, 3,200 shillings in Mombasa, 3,500 shillings in Nakuru, and 3,430 shillings in Malindi.

Cassavas, on the other hand, are retailing at an average price of 3,025 shillings across the country for a 99 Kg bag, with Malindi recording the highest price at 4,000 shillings.
