An accident on the Nairobi-Nakuru highway has left four people dead and scores nursing serious injuries.
The four who lost their lives were traders at the highway’s famous Soko Mjinga market and were crushed to death when the driver of a speeding lorry lost control.
The lorry is reported to be on high speed and hit two vehicles before veering off the road where it crashed a number of traders killing four of them on the spot.
The accident which occurred at 6 am near the flyover trading centre is feared to likely claim more lives give its severity.
Naivasha sub-county hospital is currently attending 11 of the victims with six of them reported being in critical condition.
Operations at the normally busy soko mjinga market came to a standstill as police officers moved in to collect the bodies, assist in transporting the injured to hospital and tow away the lorry’s wreckage.
Charles Rotich, the Njabini OCPD, has confirmed the accident saying that the driver of the truck fled from the scene soon after the accident and they had launched a manhunt.
“We had a tragic accident at Soko Mjinga center where we lost four men after the driver of a lorry rammed into two vehicles before losing control and hitting the traders,” Rotich said.
