AFCON Commences As Uganda Faces Off Senegal in Round of 16

The African Cup of Nations’ round of 16 is set to begin today as East Africa is well represented by Uganda in a clash against Senegal.

Uganda faces one of the most feared sides in Africa and it will be a do-or-die match for them to kick the Senegalese out of the tournament.

In a statement, the Ugandan coach, Sebastien Desabre, stresses that they don’t fear anyone and is confident that his side is more than ready to face their opponents in the round of 16.

“We are not afraid of any opponent. Senegal has played in the World Cup and it is our chance to play a good team. We will give 100 per cent,” Sebastien commented during a press conference in Cairo.

The cranes as they are referred too, got another boost, as their number one goalkeeper, Denis Onyango is back and fit for today’s match.

Onyango is a key player in this match and is also confident that despite Senegal being a good team, Uganda also has a commendable package of qualities. “Senegal is a good team, have a good coach and players, but we have our qualities too,” Onyango stressed.

The Ugandan players had earlier boycotted their training session due to unpaid salaries but are now set back as the issue was dealt with according to the head coach.

The Senegal side alias Teranga Lions, go into the match with a fierce front line led by Liverpool star, Sadio Mane.

Mane has been in the headlines ever since the AFCoN started and will strive to ensure his team advances to the quarterfinals.

The Lions of Teranga are still haunted by the ghost of not winning any continental cup, despite being ranked the top team in Africa.

This is a must-win for either team and the winner will face either Benin or Morocco, who are also playing today, in the quarters.

The teams last clashed in 2017, a friendly match that ended in a goalless draw.
